In the past couple weeks we have performed a handful of compression checks and leak down tests on customer’s vehicles.
These are a great diagnostic tool, but also great for someone who wants to take their vehicle to the next level but wants to make sure the motor is mechanically sound.
It also make sense to do the spark plugs at the same time, We use NGK stock heat or one step colder plugs for our customers here at AJW Performance. Leak tests start at 25.00, and compression checks start at 85.00.
Tyler brought his 2002 Subaru Legacy GT in to AJW Performance for a full refresh. His Legacy has plenty of life left in it, but it was time for some maintenance for sure. We used a combination of OEM replacement parts as well as a full Gates timing belt kit.
Work Performed:
Gates timing belt kit
OEM head gasket replacement
Spark plugs
Clutch kit
Accessory belts

Porsche Exhaust
We decided to install a Agency Power exhaust system on the AJW 996 C4.
The muffler system is high flowing, stainless steel, and moderately affordable in comparison to many of the other systems on the market.
Installation is pretty straight forward. This system utilizes the OEM tips, so make sure to have a pair of OEM exhaust clamps handy, because the existing ones might not be re-usable, like they were in this case since this 996 is over 10 years old. This 996 also has a FabSpeed air intake modification, and will soon be getting tuned.
Kevin’s STi came to us a couple months back with a moderate knock and miss fires in all 4 cylinders. Although his motor was build before by a different shop, we could tell that internally something just was not right with it.
His vehicle has some nice parts which contributed to making this car capable of a lot of power such as:

Back in September we were contacted by a customer who had run into some problems with his motor and now the car was undriveable. He took it to a dealership first. First they took the motor out of the car. Then they cracked into the motor and tore the whole thing down. Intake manifold off, heads stripped from the block etc. Cause of the blown motor was oil starvation. They quoted him an exorbitant amount of money for a motor rebuild, 9-10 thousand dollars all said and done. Tell me my 3 year old car needs to have 10 grand dumped into it I’ll probably laugh at you too.
Since we’ve been taking on more and more motor builds I decided it was time to make a nice blog post that describes everything that must be done while a motor build is being completed. We have some of the best techs, motor builders and tuners that work closely with AJW Performance to build the strongest, most reliable, quality motor possible for our customers. It all starts with the customer service. Right off the bat we will introduce ourselves and get as much information possible about the motor you already have, whether is a running motor that you want built for full race duty or a tired motor that needs new life. We like to find out your overall goals and purposes for the car. This will help us in deciding the best parts combinations for you and also is the start of building a fully comprehensive price quote.
Believe it or not, AJW works on vehicles other than Subaru! Our customer wanted to enhance their vehicle with sound and power.
The invidia catback exhaust for the Honda s2000 was a perfect choice!.
The car has better throttle response and a great deep tone.
The exhaust tips are subtle and clean, complimenting the natural dynamics of the vehicles design and character.
We loved Josh’s WRX, it was clean and fun to work on, it used to be owned by Bren @ Brentuning so it also had some tasteful modifications already, and of course had a nice tune on it as well!
Josh wanted to get more aggressive with wheel fitment, so we installed some ISC Street Sport coilovers, camber bolts, extended wheel studs and a fender roll as well.
The wheel of choice was the Rota Grids, in a flashy white with a 18×9.5 dimension…. sweet!
Feel free to contact us for ISC coilover and fender rolling packages!
This Legacy GT wagon came in to us with some prior modifications. Our customer wanted us to bring his vehicle/build to the next level, and install a full turbo upgrade kit. The turbo of choice was the VF52, which in my opinion is one of the best choices for these vehicles for the high 200 to low 300 WHP range. The car will spool quick with a beautiful torque curve, minimal lag! We installed the VF52, some DW 750cc injectors, one step colder NGK spark plugs, GT SPEC headers/up-pipe, a catch can, boost controller, + much more!
Whats cool about the FMS FMIC kit? Well a lot of things; one of them being you can keep your fog lights, and another being its hundreds less than other leading brands!
AJW Performance has installed many of these in the past couple of months, and we have nothing to say but good things about them.
This customer also has our ISC coilovers, a COBB short shifter, Invidia catback, Invidia downpipe, and a couple other goodies.
Here is a quick shot while we do a final test fit on the bumper (don’t mind the bumper shavings)
